Embracing Mother Nature

Updated: Jun 18

From one mama to another, I truly believe that life isn’t complete without the biggest Mother of all — Mother Nature. There’s something so healing about stepping outside, feeling the calm, soaking in the peace, and just being present with the world around us. Nature brings us joy, resets mind, body and soul, and helps us reconnect with what really matters - OURSELVES! Yes! Our health, our strength, our peace, our passion - vital in meeting all that motherhood demands without falling apart at the seams more than we'd like to admit and trying to keep some semblance of ourselves - the young girls and young women filled with dreams, desires, and a sense of adventure that we once aspired to before we became moms. Now we get to do it all with our families and children - that is, as long as we're able to find the balance - and wise old Mother Nature is just waiting for us because she knows that without that balance in our lives, the fog can settle in, making it hard to see clearly or feel truly connected to ourselves.

Now, chances are it may feel impossible trying to set time aside for some solo outside adventure when you're dealing with the kids, work, chores and everything else motherhood calls for but, connecting with nature is a solid chance to restore our balance, heal our tired minds and bodies, spark our creativity, and deepen our understanding of the beautiful world we’re raising our children in. So, taking my own advice, I finally pushed myself out of my doldrums and started reconnecting with wise old Mother Nature.

These moments are simple snapshots of mornings spent in a local park and by the ocean - both of which are between 5 and 10 minutes away by car. I find that just sitting on a bench and listening to the birds chirping to one another, watching the squirrels run up the trees, and feeling the breeze from the trees wrapping itself around me is priceless. Or strolling along the shore, letting my feet sink in the sand as the rolling water washes over them while I gaze out at the horizon, is divine. Even just sitting in my own backyard, enjoying a cup of tea or coffee, writing a poem or blog post while listening to the hum of the birds, the frogs, and the mangoes falling to the ground with a big "bang" is enchanting. There's so much world around us, outside of our daily lives.

If you have little ones, take them on a stroll. I see so many moms pushing their strollers while jogging down the block or at the park. If you're not close to a big park or the ocean, maybe a littler corner park with swings and slides, even just a walk around the block or some time in the yard can do the trick, but the real magic happens when you embrace it all. Don't just go for the walk or stroll, embrace your surroundings. Listen, feel, see. It's delicious out there. The greatest mother of all is just waiting to wrap her arms around you! So if you're having trouble trying to find some balance and some semblance of YOU, take the plunge and enjoy the tremendous healing power of the great outdoors.
